the inventors dilemma

1.) Griffith ran into many problems, one of them being that when he was making the lens printer he was trying to solve the wrong problem. His printer did win prizes but it did not make it to the market. As an industrial designer we are constantly trying to fix problems with current products. Sometimes we do not always fix the problem that consumers are looking for.

2.) Industrial designers respond to the consumers wants and needs. When we do not fix the problems they are looking for we refine and redesign our products. We keep doing this until the products meets the expectations of the consumer. Many industrial designers want to use the latest and greatest technology in their products but manufacturing products with this technology may be very costly and may change their ideas. This is another one of the problems that Griffith had.

3.) Another one of Griffiths problems was that he was unable to make his electricity wind generator full scale because of costs and for the reason that it would take years to get the product out on the market. He also created an electric rope but he said it was a technology waiting for the right application. He also had the idea of solar roadways but realized the the amount of energy to make it would not be returned.
